Storms & Disasters

The 72-Hour Kit

A grab-and-go kit that covers the first three days — the gap before help and services return.

What to do
  1. 1Water: one gallon per person per day (three-day minimum).
  2. 2Food: three days of no-cook, calorie-dense food + a manual can opener.
  3. 3Light & power: headlamps, spare batteries, power bank, crank radio.
  4. 4First aid, a week of any prescriptions, and copies of key documents in a waterproof bag.
  5. 5Comfort & cash: warm layer, emergency blanket, small bills, and a list of contacts on paper.
Common mistakes to avoid
  • Building one giant kit you can't carry
  • Forgetting meds, glasses, and pet supplies
  • Never rotating food/water
Good to know
  • Check and rotate the kit twice a year when clocks change.
  • Keep a smaller version in each vehicle.
