Hot-Climate & Desert Kit
In heat and drought, water, shade, and sun protection are survival — not comfort.
What to do
- 1Carry far more water than feels necessary, plus a way to treat more.
- 2Cover up rather than strip down — light, loose, long clothing slows water loss.
- 3Create portable shade (tarp/umbrella) for midday rest.
- 4Pack electrolytes; plain water alone can cause dangerous salt loss.
- 5Travel at dawn/dusk; rest in shade during peak heat.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Rationing water to the point of impairment
- Exerting in midday heat
- Skipping electrolytes
Good to know
- Sweat is your radiator — covering up preserves it longer than rationing water does.
