Paracord: Why You Carry It
550 paracord packs a lot of utility into a little space — and a woven bracelet keeps several feet on your wrist.
What to do
- 1Shelter: ridgelines, guy-lines, and lashings for a tarp.
- 2Rescue: secure a splint, make a sling, or rig a simple haul line (not for life-loading).
- 3Inner strands: fishing line, sewing thread, snares, or dental floss.
- 4Repairs: replace bootlaces, straps, and zipper pulls.
- 5Keep 25–50 ft in your kit; a bracelet stores ~10 ft on you.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trusting paracord for climbing or body weight (it's not rated for that)
- Cheap imitation cord
Good to know
- Melt the ends with a flame so it doesn't fray.
